2. WORLD ELEPHANT DAY

Purpose: To raise awareness about the urgent threats faced by African and Asian elephants, and to promote their protection in both wild and captive environments.

Origins: Co-founded on 12 August 2012 by Canadian filmmaker Patricia Sims and Thailand’s Elephant Reintroduction Foundation, under royal patronage.
